A tisket, a tasket, a great wire basket

In my ongoing attempt at organization . . . and believe me it is a constant effort . . . I had a problem in my side of the closet.  Primarily with shoes.  One thing you need to know about me is that I am a shoe and purse junky.   I have made great strides in my addiction, but there is still that pesky pile of shoes in my side of the closet. What to do . . . what to do?

Shoe Basket Project Empty

For years I would just slide the double door open and kick my shoes onto the pile.  Which was fine if I wanted to wear the same pair of shoes the next day.  But heaven forbid I wanted the cute pair of hot pink flats that were almost invariably buried underneath.  I spent hours over the years digging.  Then the seasons would change and I would box up the previous season and rinse and repeat as the seasons passed.

Shoe Basket Project Wheels

UNTIL!!!  One day Jack and I were rooting around in our barn.  I came across this cool old wire basket that we had picked up at an auction. I had used it to hold flowers in my garden a few different years.  It is a bit rusty but I thought this might be a good solution to contain my shoes.  At least I could pull the basket out instead of practically standing on my head digging through the pile.  I brought it in and it was a perfect fit.  But how about this?  What if we put a piece of wood in the bottom of the basket and add some wheels underneath?  Then I could just wheel it in and out.

Jack cut a piece of scrap plywood to fit the bottom of the basket, took two strips of scrap wood, screwed them into the plywood piece through the slats of the basket then added wheels to those strips.  VIOLA!!  What a HUGE improvement!  There is also the added benefit that I can see what’s inside, the shoes are off the floor of the closet, nicely contained, the shoes can breathe and it saves me shloads of time.  The only cost was the wheels and we had them on hand.  Am I an organizational genius, or what?!  Wink!

This, my friends, was a tiny stoke of luck and brilliance all in a small wire basket.  (I give a humble bow and exit stage left.)

Until next time.
