It’s a wrap!

I am blessed with thick, naturally wavy hair that I find suits me best worn short.  I like it.  But I have to admit that as much as I like my pixie cut I wanted to be able to jazz it up and accessorize it like ladies with long, beautiful locks.  I love the look of the headbands, headwraps and scarves that I see online, in magazines and Pinterest but I have had no luck with them.  They either have too much fabric, are too complicated to tie, or too tight and uncomfortable.  One day I was going through a box of scarves…something you need to know about me is that I’m a scarf junkie…love, love, love scarves…and I found that I had a lot of long, thin, silk or chiffon-y scarves that I loved but didn’t wear anymore.

 I bought this headband at Old Navy and liked it.

It is lightweight, a good width but best of all, comfortable on my head.  I thought, hmmm, could I somehow use those scarves to make a similar headband?  The model had a covered elastic band.  Too much work. What could I use instead?  How would ponytail bands work? They are inexpensive, I have the scarves and supplies on hand.  So I thought, why not give it a try?!  Here’s what I came up with and I am overjoyed!

I used the model headband as my size pattern knowing that it was a good fit for my head.  You might want to measure your head to get a good length for you.  My length was 20″ and I added 2″ for a total of 22″.  Cut the scarf.

Take one end and fold it over into thirds.  Take that end, fold it 1″ over the side of the ponytail band.  I used a matching color thread, threaded a needle and hand stitched the scarf end in place.  Repeat on the other side.

And VIOLA!!

 The elastic is hidden under my hair and it is very comfortable to wear.   It’s a fun way to use the pretty scarves that I’ve had packed away for years.  I’ve worn them several times now and have gotten many compliments.  They are great for a bad hair day or if you just want a fun shot of color.

So pretty, easy, inexpensive and fun!  What do you think?
